Our Story

MY.TOWN’s journey began in 2018 with the unwavering determination of our Founder and CEO, Willie Viljoen. Faced with adversity that left him and his family homeless, Willie transformed his life and the lives of countless others through resilience and vision. With an idea for an app but lacking the necessary funds, he embarked on a remarkable path of self-discovery and learning.

Willie embraced web development and coding, honing his skills by crafting websites for friends’ businesses. Through these experiences, he not only gained technical expertise but also profound life lessons. While crisscrossing South Africa, he immersed himself in diverse communities, understanding their needs and aspirations.

The journey continued as Willie launched a series of successful apps known as ‘Mytown Apps,’ including ‘MyMargate,’ ‘MyGardenroute,’ ‘MyJozi,’ and more. These apps served as the foundation for what would later become MY.TOWN. Each app offered unique features, such as free online business directories, free games, and direct call features to emergency numbers near specific regions in South Africa. Local businesses seized the opportunity to advertise within these apps. As ‘Mytown Apps’ grew in popularity and scope, Willie recognized the potential to create something even greater. He envisioned a unified platform that transcended the limitations of individual apps. In this new era, ‘Mytown Apps’ transformed into the all-encompassing MY.TOWN, offering an array of services and functionalities that combine the best aspects of LinkedIn, Facebook, Google Business, GoDaddy, Udemy, Netflix, and more.
